Caring for others can be as difficult as the condition itself and a respite for a carer can bring very positive results for both the carer and the person being cared for. The Cedars and Pen-Y-Garth Care Homes have been providing respite for carers for many years and so understand the emotional and physical realities faced by family and friends of their loved ones.

What’s involved in Respite Care
Respite care is a common term we often hear but what does it actually stand for?
Respite care refers to short-term care that helps an individual or family take a break from the daily routine and stress of looking after and caring for another member of the family or a friend.
With innovations and breakthroughs in medical science, the number of elderly in the population is rising on an annual basis. But at the same time we cannot ignore the problems that come with old-age such as Dementia, Alzheimer’s, and Parkinsons. At some point in their lives many older people need some form of personalised care. They may be older, but they are our very own loved and dear ones, may it be your mum, your dad or your grandparents, who now need your helping hand in the sunset of their lives. Such people sometimes need 24x7 specialised care which can easily lead to a lot of stress in the family… and balancing day-to-day life does become more difficult.
