Frequently Asked Questions
Residents
Q : Can Residents come and go as they please ?
A : Our Residents can come and go as they please within the confines of the Home. By necessity, however, we do exercise a degree of supervision relevant to the needs of individuals and the entrance doors are security coded for this purpose.
Due to the nature of our Residents' problems we prefer that all movements away from the Home are accompanied either by a relative, friend or member of staff. We fully appreciate the need to maintain family ties and we therefore do our utmost to co-operate with any visits away from the home.
Some of our Residents make regular accompanied trips to local shops, church activities and social events, either with their relatives or members of staff. In the summer months we like our residents to take advantage of our extensive grounds and gardens and a wide range of patio and garden furniture is provided for this purpose.
Q : What type of accommodation is available ?
A : Pen-Y-Garth provides an excellent standard of accommodation combined with a friendly atmosphere and homely environment.
The bedrooms are contained on two floors served with a modern passenger lift.
All communal access ways, stairs and doorways are designed to allow ease of access for ambulant residents as well as those using walking aids or wheelchairs. Comfort levels throughout the home are maintained by a thermostatically controlled gas fired central heating system.
With the exception of certain clinical areas, the home is fully carpeted in a traditional colour co-ordinated design.
Assisted bathing facilities are available with private facilities for the more able active Residents.
Q : Can Residents choose their own room ?
A : Subject to availability, Residents will be offered the room of their choice, and will be maintained in this room unless practical or medical reasons determine differently, and subject to consultation with the Resident / family.
Q : May I bring my own furniture ?
A : We are happy to discuss requests from Residents who wish to bring small items of furniture and personal mementoes into the Home.
Q : Will my valuables be safe ?
A : The Home possesses a secure safe for those wishing to deposit items of value. Receipts will be issued for all such deposits and withdrawals at all times. A lockable cupboard in the resident's room can be provided if required at no extra cost although items of value must be deposited in the safe in order to be fully covered by insurance.
Pension books may be left with the Administrator or Matron / Manager for safekeeping, and we can arrange for Pension monies to be collected and distributed on request, including Personal Allowances.
Q : Can anyone stay at Pen-Y-Garth ?
A : We provide for a wide variety of Residents, and their level of Care is assessed on its own merits before and after arrival, to ensure their Care needs are met.
A sophisticated system of Care need assessment is in use in the Home which is used for each resident both following arrival and on an ongoing basis. An individual Care Plan, specific to each Resident and based on their assessed Care needs, is then implemented.
Q : How long can I stay ?
A : Subject to suitable accommodation being available we can provide care for Day Care , Convalescent, Respite, or Long Stay.Care.
Q : Can I bring my pet ?
A : This is at the discretion of the Home’s Management, and will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
,b>Q : What is the food like ?
A : We retain the services of experienced cooks who ensure that all meals are high nutritional value, varied and well presented. Menus are changed on a regular basis and individual preferences can be accommodated within reason.
Diabetic and special diet needs can be catered for following discussion and agreement with the Matron / Manager.
